Caps Utd release Gabriel Nyoni to Maritzburg

Former cup kings Caps United and South African ABSA premier league side Maritzburg United have agreed terms on the transfer of speedy winger Gabriel Nyoni.

The 27 year old Nyoni, impressed the Erick Tinkler led technical team at trials in Pietermaritzburg.

Caps United Vice President Nhamo Tutusani confirmed Nyoni’s move.

“We have agreed terms with Maritzburg after Gabriel (Nyoni) impressed them during his trial stint. We are working on the paper work for him to move to South Africa but I can confirm that all is well and Gabriel will be turning out for Maritzburg soon,” he said.

Nyoni has been inspirational for the Makepekepe in the first half of the season after his move from fading giants Highlanders FC.

Nyoni who had become a favorite of the green machine fans amassed five goals and provided three assists in 12 games.

Maritzburg United is reportedly leading the race to sign Bloemfontein Celtic striker Ndumiso Mabena. The Team of Choice, Maritzburg are battling it out with Cape Town City for the services of Mabena, a former Orlando Pirates striker, but they are the front runners at this stage.  

Meanwhile title contenders Chicken Inn FC on Wednesday morning unveiled former Ngezi Platinum Stars skipper Liberty Chakoroma as their new signing. Chakoroma was sacked by the miners after leading an industrial action in the early stages of the season.
