Breaking: Chitungwiza town clerk suspended

CHITUNGWIZA council town clerk George Makunde has been suspended from office with immediate effect, Zim Morning Post can reveal.

He was suspended for gross insubordination and refusal to obey given lawful instructions.

In a suspension letter gleaned by this publication, Makunde refused to submit his personal file and copy of employment to the Board of Councillors.

“You were instructed to provide contracts of employment and conditions of service for all senior managers and you refused to comply.

“You also refused to comply with the instruction to strictly adhere to 30:70 salaries, service delivery expenditure ratio, read part of the letter.

This development follows precedence set in Harare where former Bernard Manyenyeni had similar clashes with the then town clerk Tendai Mahachi.

The rivalry was based on political party lines.

On Monday morning, the dormitory town’s mayor Lovemore Maiko was assaulted by suspected ZANU PF youths after he wrote a letter to Makunde probing him on his behaviour.

Makunde’s mobile phone was not reachable at the time of writing.
