Esigodini– One of the country’s oldest and elite private schools Falcon College has suspended a student whose video chanting a war cry in vulgar language went viral this week with immediate effect.
The high school student was cheering behind his school’s sports team and he led a ‘war cry’ in which he denigrates women alleging that if a woman asks for money he will in return demand his ‘privates’.
In a statement released this week, the school’s headmaster Reg Querl said the school’s code of conduct do not condone such behaviour as one of the school’s values was maintaining ‘integrity’ .
“The incident involving the Falcon school boy singing a vulgar and inappropriate war cry is not condoned by Falcon College. The young man in question has been suspended, pending investigation. We will not tolerate this behaviour,” wrote the headmaster Querl.
This incident follows hot on the heels of a similar incident at a girls only school in Harare.
A form three pupil at Chisipite High School was also caught in circumstances of similar nature where she sang a song on camera bragging that ‘all ladies were prostitutes’.
Sociologists however submitted that there was nothing amiss with such behavioural traits in adolescents especially with the advent of social media .
“Well, those songs were sung even in our old days in vernacular and now that our kids are exposed to various media platforms they have just adopted and adapted these war cries which are deemed inappropriate,” submitted a sociologist who refused to be named.
