AVM Africa CEO loses $120,000 in land purchase scam
AVM Africa CEO Kenneth Shupai Musanhi has lost US$120,000 in a series of botched land purchases facilitated by self-proclaimed freelance real estate agent Sithabile Sinyanga. Sinyanga, 35, appeared before Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi facing charges of theft of trust property.
Prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi recounted the events leading to the charges. In October 2023, Musanhi, searching for residential stands in Harare, was introduced to Sinyanga, who claimed to be a freelance estate agent. Sinyanga facilitated three land sales, receiving a total of US$120,000 from Musanhi, which she allegedly converted to her own use.
In January 2024, Musanhi discovered the purchased stands were occupied by third parties and confronted Sinyanga, who became evasive. Musanhi filed a police report, leading to Sinyanga’s arrest. None of the stolen funds have been recovered.
