FORMER Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko faces arrest amid reports the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption officers attempted to apprehend him for criminal abuse of office charges.
Mphoko also faces a fresh charge of resisting arrest when he demanded that the Zacc officers produce a warrant of arrest.
Insiders say Mphoko is wanted in connection with a case where he defeated the course of justice during his tenure as vice president.
In 2016 while he was acting President Mphoko was sucked into the corruption saga at the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara) after he reportedly ordered the release of the then acting chief executive officer Engineer Moses Juma and non-executive director Davison Norupiri who were arrested by Zacc on allegations of defrauding the parastatal of US$1,3 million.
Zacc had secured the arrest of the two Zinara bosses under docket number RR08/05/16. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) charged them for allegedly defrauding the parastatal of US$1 294 575,76.
Last year Juma was sentenced to 30 months in jail for criminal abuse of office.
