Mutare begins shortlisting candidates for Town Clerk post

MUTARE – THE Mutare City Council is in Nyanga where it has begun the shortlisting process of aspiring candidates for the Town Clerk’s post, as the local authority seeks to fast-track and conclude the exercise.

The council is in search of a Town Clerk who will replace the late Joshua Maligwa who succumbed to Covid-19 in January this year.

Mutare Mayor Blessing Tandi on Monday confirmed that a team of selectors is in Nyanga to do the short listing process.

Tandi said the shortlisting exercise will come up with the top ten, who will then be invited for interviews on a later date.

“We have a team that will be trained on the short listing of the candidates on Tuesday. Then after the training workshop we will then do the short listing on Wednesday,” Tandi said.

The team includes the employment consultant, selected councilors and two Town Clerks from other cities who have been invited as resource persons.

“This is a very strategic position for the council. We have decided to go to a secluded place like Nyanga so that there is maximum concentration. This workshop on training and short listing of the candidates is important for us as council because we are aiming to have the best candidates for our city. We want to have the best output,” said Tandi.

“The panelists who will shortlist the candidates will first have a training workshop so that they have maximum expertise on how they will come out with the best shortlisted candidates,” he added.

“Our aim is to facilitate the smooth flow of the short listing process that is accountable and transparent,” said Tandi.

Council received a total number of 45 applications from the aspiring candidates.
Mutare ratepayers are looking forward to a strategic Town Clerk who has the heart and pace to change the council and city.

The Mutare City council has been under fire for corruption involving senior managers and councilors involving thousands of US$ dollars which has adversely affected service delivery.
