Teenager attempts to flee from police custody

EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD Prince Edward School student attempted to flee from lawful custody last week following his arrest on allegations of stealing his father’s money, Zim Morning Post can report.

Dennis Gahadzikwa allegedly got away with US$4 000 belonging to his father who is believed to be under the employment of a non-governmental organisation (name supplied).

The Prince Edward School boy is said to have tried to run away from a plain-clothes prison officer keeping watch on him soon after sitting for his ‘A’ level examinations at Lifelong College, located opposite the Harare Regional Magistrates’ Courts, having earlier been temporarily released from prison to write his examinations.

He slipped off the watchful eye of the prison officer and bolted out of the school premises before he was eventually captured.

The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service has opened a case under RRB4320189 for the student, and police are investigating the case.

Under Zimbabwean laws, it is a constitutional right for one to go and sit for any examination while under guard by prison authorities while in remand prison.
