HARARE City Council (HCC) has embarked on an ambitious project to revamp Rufaro stadium ahead of the 2019 football season.
HCC has tasked the Housing and Community Services director, Addmore Nhekairo to ensure that the stadium meets the expectations when the 2019 season kicks off.
The stadium has been condemned by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) due to its failure to meet international standards.
The acting chamber secretary Charles Kandemiri said they will erect perimeter walls and make arrangements to source heavy vehicles wheel clamps from City Park (Pvt) Ltd.
HCCo will also drill boreholes in the stadium to allow for the irrigation of the turf.
Meanwhile, the Glamour Boys coach, Tonderai Ndiraya is on record blaming his team’s defeat on the poor state of Rufaro stadium.
“Naturally, when you get a pitch like that, all your tactics become very difficult to implement and the stadium needs serious attention as per the recommendation by the stadium inspection team earlier this year,” he was quoted as saying.
