Mwonzora, Khupe tear into MDC-T led councils

THE Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T has now turned its focus on all opposition-led councils with view of cleansing them of rebellious individuals in preparation of the impending congress as ordered to them by the Supreme Court early last month, Zim Morning Post can report.

MDC-T on Monday set July 31 as the date for the congress following Supreme Court judgment last month ordering that the congress be held 90 days from the date of the ruling.

Political analysts who spoke to this publication have hinted that the move by MDC-T to clear opposition-led municipalities of non-compliant councilors is born out of the desire to put together a loyal and obliging team for the congress.

In a demonstration of its muscles, the Khupe-led MDC-T last week recalled four opposition legislators for what they deemed as their bad influence on others.

The four legislators fired were parliamentarians Charlton Hwende, Tabitha Khumalo, Prosper Mutseyami and Senator Lilian Timveous.

Most urban councils are opposition –run.

“Six Harare councillors are on the firing squad,” said a senior official in the Khupe-led MDC-T.

Currently, Chamisa controls all but a few rural councils. The recall of councillors would obviously be met with stiff resistance.

But Mwonzora remains adamant that his team is going to bring sanity to all councils which Chamisa purports to have power over.

“We want nothing but constitutionalism. We have been in the trenches for long and cannot continue pretending as if it is business as usual.

“Everyone who has opposed them (Nelson Chamisa team) is labelled Zanu PF.

“We have support from the people and know that we are on the right path,” Mwonzora said.
