MDC to roll out massive demonstrations

THE MDC Alliance is set to roll out massive demonstrations in protest against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.

This has come after massive deliberations on the way forward by party members who have been accusing president Nelson Chamisa of being too soft following his spiritual approach to handling political woes.

The more aggressive and militant Tendai Biti led faction cannot wait any longer as they are of the thought that a soft approach to counter Mnangagwa is not materialising.

This comes at a time when the Mdc Alliance has had a rude awakening after the realisation that any effort to have a one on one dialogue with Mnangagwa have hit a wall as he maintains that he has already given Chamisa clear indications on the circumstances of dialogue.

Restlessness is spreading in the opposition camp as activists want the militant approach implemented amid fears that Chamisa is satisfied with the way he has consolidated power in the camp.

The MDC has given Mnangagwa a 14-day ultimatum to engage the youthful leader Chamisa in talks to end the economic meltdown or face protests and civil disobedience from its supporters.

Deputy Chairperson Job Sikhala said this at a rally in Chitungwiza after the end of the seven-day period of fasting.

“Let’s make sure we radicalise the base, when the base is radicalised, political pressure mounts. What does political pressure lead to? It leads to dialogue, not dialogue to sell out the people of Zimbabwe … we need total freedom,” he said.

“We want to go and negotiate the transfer of power. I am giving Emmerson Mnangagwa two weeks from now for him to call president Nelson Chamisa and say come I want to talk to you. I am giving Emmerson Mnangagwa two weeks, to say I want to negotiate. The people are speaking here, you can see over 30 000 at this rally who are ready to confront anarchy. Emmerson Mnangagwa, start counting from today, if you don’t respond we shall respond in equal measure.”
