Masarira’s husband sentenced to community service for domestic violence

HARARE – Bongani Mlotshwa (29), husband of politician Linda Masarira (41), was sentenced to community service today after being found guilty of contravening the Domestic Violence Act.

The Epworth Magistrates’ Court heard that Mlotshwa physically abused his wife, leading to her hospitalization.

The incident was triggered when Masarira, the president of Labour, Economists, and African Democrats (LEAD), discovered her husband in a compromising position with her 22-year-old daughter, Kupakwashe Masarira, inside their home.

The State provided evidence that Mlotshwa assaulted Masarira three times on the eye with clenched fists on May 5, 2024, after she found him in her daughter’s room.

As a result of the assault, Masarira was admitted to a local hospital.

Mlotshwa was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment, with 5 months suspended for 5 years.

The remaining 10 months were also suspended, on the condition that Mlotshwa performs 350 hours of community service.
