Malawi eclipse Zimbabwe on latest FIFA rankings

Zimbabwe national football team has fallen one place down the ladder on the latest FIFA World Rankings released yesterday.

Malawi have moved 10 places in the positive to now occupy number 119 in the world while Zimbabwe slumped to number 122 in the World and number 32 in Africa.

Senegal who won the just ended Africa Cup of Nations climbed to 18th in the world and retained the number one spot in Africa.

The Warriors’ slump on the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking follow their below-average performance at AFCON where they failed to progress to the knockout round.

Strikingly, Malawi beat Zimbabwe 2-1 to reach their first-ever appearance in the last 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The victory was only Malawi’s second win at the Nations Cup, with their first – a 3-0 victory over Algeria – coming in 2010, when they exited in the group stages.

The defeat condemned Zimbabwe to become the first team to be eliminated from the Nations Cup, as they could no longer finish third in the group.

Meanwhile, Belgium were unmoved at the top on the world table.

World Top 10: 1. Belgium, 2. Brazil, 3. France, 4. Argentina, 5. England, 6. Italy, 7. Spain, 8. Portugal, 9. Denmark, 10. Netherlands.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 31 March 2022.
