Lomagundi College bursar arrested for stealing US$35,000 worth of parents school fees

A Lomagundi College bursar was in court for allegedly scamming the institution of US$35,000.

When Carmalita Doreen Hinze came before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi on Wednesday, she was granted Z$100,000 bail.

Hinze will appear in court once more on February 28.

According to the State, Hinze was given school fees 16 different parents between January 1 and December 31 of 2021 in various amounts paid in US dollars by various parents.

It is alleged that she used the money for herself rather than depositing it in a bank as required.

Hinze’s luck ran out when parents voiced their displeasure over the fact that their children’s account statements were not being credited despite complete payment of fees.

Parents were then instructed to bring their receipts to school for validation.

It was found that Hinze had taken cash from parents but had not credited the school children’s’ accounts.

Later, once the school informed the authorities, Hinze was taken into custody. Nothing was recovered.
