Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has heavily cordoned the Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House amid reports that they want to scare away people from the Movement for Democratic Change demonstrations set for Friday 16.
Harare has witnessed a heavily armed police presence in the Central business District with the Harvest House being the most guarded as the epicenter of the planned demonstration.
Members of the military police and support unit officers at around 8:00 am manned roadblocks where they searched for weapons ahead of the demonstration.
People without National Identity Cards were sent back home.
All strategic roads are heavily infested by roadblocks.
MDC leader Nelson Chamisa on his Twitter account said the search is to ensure that people are frustrated.
“MRT hse is heavily cordoned off by the ZRP. Stop and search on all roads to the CBD designed to ensure people are frustrated and scared away.Traffic stretching more than several kilometers on all major roads. Our Legal team at court to stop the police from stopping the people’s peaceful march,” he wrote.
