Land fraudsters on the prowl in Harare South

HARARE City Council (HCC) has on Wednesday urged residents to follow proper channels when making land purchases, as fraudsters are on the prowl.

This comes after reports that some suspected fraudsters who are purporting to be HCC agents are parceling out land in Ushewokunze residential area in Harare South.

In a notice issued by the HCC on Wednesday, Director of Housing and Social Development, Edmore Nhekairo said the land sales are illegal and the developmental control team is swiftly moving in to stop the illegal parceling out of land.

“The suspected fraudsters are allegedly moving with a Nissan Hard body with registration number ABG 1621 and a Honda Fit AET 8845 with two others purported to be surveyors identified only as Jumbe and Njamajiva.

“It came to our attention that some people are collecting regularization fees in Southlea Park and also claiming to be representing HCC, be advised that we are working out modalities of re-organizing the area with Pinnacle Holdings, the Ministry of Local Government and National Housing and Udicorp,” he said.

HCC has not mandated any of its councilors or officials to sell land in Harare South on its behalf and it does not sell land through third parties and home seekers.

Homeseekers are urged to verify the authenticity of residential stands with the Housing and Community Services Department before parting with their hard earned cash.
