Just In: Harare Council director of works suspended

HARARE City Council (HCC) director of works Engineer Zvenyika Chawatama has been sent on forced leave to pave way for investigations to establish the reasons of operational challenges in his department.

In a letter dated October 14, and seen by this publication, town clerk Hosiah Chisango instructed Chawatama to proceed on leave for 45 days with effect from Tuesday.

It has come to my attention that your department is facing some operational challenges that has necessitated an investigations in order to establish the facts on the ground.

“For purposes of transparency, it is necessary that you be given absence of leave to pave way for investigations,” read part of the letter.

Chawatama was appointed in 2017 and insiders said Chawatama was recommending the hiring of inept architects who bungled projects among other boobs that brought the name of HCC into disrepute.
