INCARCERATED investigative journalist Hopewell Chin’ono is reportedly critically ill at Chikurubi Maximum Prison, Zim Morning Post can report.
Information reaching this publication on Monday alleged that the scribe’s poor health condition was relayed to his lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, by MDC Alliance legislator for St Mary’s, Job Sikhala.
Sikhala is also languishing at Chikurubi Maximum Prison on accusations of attempting to topple the government of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Mtetwa told Zim Morning Post by telephone that she had dispatched a doctor to the maximum security prison, adding she hoped government would allow the medical practitioner in to attend to Chin’ono.
“We received the message concerning Chin’ono’s ill-health today (Monday). We have already dispatched his personal doctor to Chikurubi Maximum Prison and hope that officers there will assist so that he is expeditiously attended to,” Mtetwa said.
Chin’ono has been in prison for more than a month after being arrested on July 20 on accusations of encouraging, through social media, efforts to remove Mnangagwa from power.
