I’m not a G40 mole – Mwonzora

FORMER MDC secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora on Wednesday refuted allegations by Jealousy Mawarire that he is a Generation 40 (G40) mole and is being used to destroy the opposition party from within.

In accusing Mwonzora, Mawarire recalled a time during the November 2017 military-assisted coup when the opposition kingpin was allegedly ecstatic over provision of personal security details by the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), then under the command of Constantino Chiwenga.

But Mwonzora hit back at Mawarire, describing him as a G40 element “masquerading as friends of the MDC“.

The former MDC secretary-general accused people like Mawarire of attempting to emasculate the opposition.

“They want to create discontent within the opposition so that they weaken it before they either rejoin Zanu PF or put their own candidate to lead the opposition,” he said.

MDC insiders say there are plans in place in to eject Mwonzora from the party, with Chamisa not having forgotten how he was humiliated in 2014 after he lost what seemed like a stroll in the park for the party secretary-general post.

“Chamisa will never forget what happened to him in 2014, and there is no way he will feel at ease with Mwonzora,” said a member of the MDC Standing Committee who refused to be named for fear of victimisation.

The MDC top official said Chamisa and party vice president Tendai Biti were, in fact, responsible for the recent “stage-managed” demonstrations against Mwonzora at Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House, the party headquarters in Harare.

The party insider said the pending Supreme Court ruling would decide Mwonzora’s fate in the MDC.

“If the 2014 MDC faction loses the Supreme Court ruling, then Mwonzora would be as good as gone.”
