HARARE City Council (HCC) has computerised over 3 000 tamper-proof executive graves to match international standards at Warren Hills’ Executive Memorial Park.
The municipality’s move is in partnership with Swaszy Granite with the ultimate intention to renew the city’s burial sites.
In a statement Godfrey Batsirei Munetsi – the Chief Parks and Cemeteries officer – said the graves were sold in advance, making them easier to computerise.
“The site had long been planned for the purpose but only resources were holding work back, thus graves are sold in advance,” Munetsi said.
Swarzy Granite managing director Onias Chagaresango said the partnership would help renew the city’s burial sites.
“The coffin will be laid on granite stone, while the top cover will also be in granite and HCC collects burial fees for the interment of the grave owners.”
Chagaresango also said that the graves would have a cemetery management software connected to General Packet Radio Services to monitor and locate the graves over the computer.
A section of cremations has been set aside while toilets, benches, pavements and walkways would be constructed.
