BUSINESSMAN and socialite Genius ‘Ginimbi’ Kadungure was on Tuesday granted ZWL10 000 bail by Harare High Court judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi

The socialite was granted bail, along with stringent conditions, after spending over a week behind bars, having been denied bail at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts.

The State opposed bail as they considered Kadungure a flight risk.

Chief Magistrate Crispen Mberewere said some of the reasons presented by the State against Kadungure’s bail application were not acceptable at law as accused was already on bail for another case.

The chief magistrate also added that a person who committed another crime while on bail would have proved his non-regard for the law, with any the court doing so perceived to be acting irresponsibly.

Kadungure is facing fraud charges after he allegedly forged the actual value of a Bentley vehicle he had bought at LSM Distributors (Pvt) Ltd, trading as Bentley Johannesburg in Melrose Boulevard, Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2019.

The State claims Kadungure paid US$81 000 duty charge instead of US$139 666.09, leading to a prejudice of US$58 665.09 to government.

He was remanded to February 20.
