THREE thieves have been apprehended by police after a string of robberies in Harare committed using a Honda Fit.
After an extensive and swift investigation, police arrested Mpande Mpisi, 24, Aaron Chitsamba, 21, and Anorld Chapfuruka, 22, for their alleged involvement in robberies that occurred in the city.
The trio appeared before Harare Magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa on Wednesday facing several counts of robbery as well as rape.
It is alleged that on January 10 around midnight, complainant Simbarashe Mushayi who was in the company of his wife Netsai Cheche when he allegedly boarded a white Honda fit from Zindoga Shopping Centre to Hopley, Harare.
The car was said to have been driven by Emmanuel Zvidza, a co-accused who is in police custody.
Along the way the accused persons are accused to have forced Mushayi to surrender his belongings at knife point.
They allegedly went on to blindfold the complainant with a sack and tied both his legs and hands with his shoe laces.
The state alleged that the accused stole ZWL480, power bank, ZB bank card, Steward visa card, drivers licence, Huawei, Nokia, Samsung and i-tel cellphone and dumped the complainant and his wife.
Value of stolen property is ZWL7 180 and nothing was recovered.
On January 27 around 8pm complainant Elijah Danana was said to have boarded the same Honda fit from Harare Hospital to his house.
The accused person allegedly pulled the same knife and robbed him of his Lenovo laptop, Apple ipad, Bluetooth speaker, ZTE phone, memory cards, shoes, keys, blender satchel, frying pan and US$40.
Danana was allegedly pushed out of a moving car, fortunately for him he managed to capture the car’s registration number.
The value of stolen property is US$6 800 and only property valued at US$2 000 was recovered.
On February 2 complainant Amos Mashusha with his workmate Shupikai Garai are said to have went to the bus stop at PHD Ministries after finishing work.
They reportedly got into the accused persons’ Honda fit.
The accused allegedly took complainant’s Sony cellphone and his ZWL1 200 cash while threatening him with a knife and pushed him out of a moving vehicle and sped off with Garai.
The accused are said to have searched Garai and stole her RAV600, KGTEL cellphone, Samsung J4 and ZWL15.
State claims that the accused drove into a bush near Sunningdale 2 where they parked the car and took turns to rape the complainant, Garai and left her stranded in the bush.
On February around midnight complainants Timothy Chifetu and Charles Chimoto reportedly boarded the Honda fit along Samora Machel Avenue destined to Murehwa.
Along Enterprise road the complainants were allegedly robbed of their cellphones, sim cards, memory cards, pants, modulator and ZWL1 852.
Following reports that were done at different police stations by the complainants, investigations were done and led to the arrest of the accused persons on February 17.
The accused were denied bail.
They were remanded to February 20 in court 14 when their co-accused Zvidza also appears.
