Ex-Warriors goalie nabbed for growing mbanje

Gift Muzadzi, a former goalkeeper for the national soccer team and Dynamos FC, has been dragged to court for allegedly cultivating seven cannabis plants in his backyard.

Muzadzi appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Yeukai Dzuda yesterday and was granted $50 000 bail. He is facing charges of violating the Dangerous Drugs Act.

According to the State, on May 29, police received an anonymous tip that Muzadzi was growing mbanje at his home in Good Hope, a suburb in north-west Harare.

Police officers raided Muzadzi’s home and discovered seven cannabis plants in his garden. The plants ranged from 0,86m to 1,8m in height.

Muzadzi’s wife, Mendy Mhene, told the police that the plants were her husband’s property. Muzadzi also confessed that he owned the mbanje plants.

The police uprooted the plants and seized them as evidence.
