- Gentleman urged to be dressed in jackets and neckties
- Ladies can wear skirts, slacks and jackets NOT denim jeans mini-skirts
- Dress as you would when going for an important job interview or to church
DOZENS of accused persons on remand, witnesses and members of the public Monday morning received a rude awakening when they were barred from entering the Harare Magistrates Court for dress code violation.
Police have been implementing the strict dress code since Saturday after years of stagnation that had seen courtroom spectators appear in court dressed as they wished.
In a notice posted on the courts entrance, authorities insisted the dignity of the court was being compromised by inappropriate attire.
“Ladies, you are urged to dress decently so as to uphold the dignity of the court. You can wear slacks and jackets NOT denim jeans mini-skirts,” reads the notice.
“Gentleman, you are urged to be dressed in jackets and neck-ties. T-shirts, denim jeans, shorts, sleeveless tops, tracksuits and some sunglasses are not allowed.”
