Cops nabbed for stealing 30 tonnes gold ore in Mazowe

TWO police officers based in Mashonaland Central province were this week nabbed for abusing office and stealing 30 tonnes of gold ore at Jumbo mine , Mazowe.

The arrests follows hot on the heels of government’s launch of an operation code-named “Chikorokoza Ngachipere /No to Machete gangs “, targeting illegal gold miners who had mushroomed Mazowe area.

Constable Shemmy Machaye (34) and Restropect Sumani (28) abused office and on February 10 connived to threaten a guard at Marondera Farm near Jumbo Mine,Mazowe.

They introduced themselves and ordered the 23-year-old guard Solomon Dube  to leave the point of guard.

 The loot belonged to a licenced miner Denford Suntile.

 The  accused hired a  Hino truck ( registration number AEU 7499)  being driven by one  Gilbert Chihiyanike.

They loaded the gold ore dump into the truck left the scene.

Acting in a tip-off, Machaye was arrested on Monday and was detained at Madziva police before being transferred to Mazowe

The value of the recovered 30 tonnes of gold ore dump is yet to be established.

 The cases were recorded at ZRP Mazowe CR 60/03/20 and CID MFFU Bindura DR 63/02/20 .
