Bright Tawanda Majecha, a 26-year-old Chipinge taxi driver was arrested for murdering his ex-girlfriend and their 4-year-old daughter. Majecha allegedly set fire to his ex-girlfriend’s cottage, resulting in the death of Paidamoyo Madondo and their daughter, Tawananyasha Majecha.
A History of Attempts
Prior to the tragic incident, Majecha had reportedly made three attempts to harm his ex-girlfriend and their daughter. Tawananyasha suffered fatal burns, while Ms. Madondo was transferred to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Blessing Madondo, Paidamoyo’s brother who was also present in the cottage, managed to escape by climbing through the roof. He is currently receiving treatment at Chipinge District Hospital for severe burns.
Altered Charges & Court Proceedings
Initially charged with a single count of murder and two counts of attempted murder, Majecha now faces two murder charges and additional charges of attempted murder following Paidamoyo’s death. Majecha appeared before Chipinge magistrate, Mrs. Catherine Dzivanyika, and was remanded in custody.
The Tragic Night
According to the prosecution’s account, on November 17, around midnight, Majecha arrived at Paidamoyo’s cottage demanding to see their daughter. When she refused to open the door, he set fire to the house. Despite their efforts to escape, Paidamoyo and Blessing were unable to save themselves. Tawananyasha’s remains were unrecognizable due to the severity of the burns.
Witnesses revealed that Majecha had made previous attempts to harm his ex-girlfriend before carrying out the horrifying act. The motive behind the crime is believed to be anger over rumors of Paidamoyo’s new relationship.
