Chipinge Serial Killer Arrested for Murdering Woman Over US$10

A serial killer, Daniel Chauke, who killed a Chipinge woman for US$10 has been arrested. It is alleged that Chauke killed Cylia Maponese, a 45-year-old woman, between April and May of this year.

Incriminating Evidence Uncovered

Chauke stole Cylia’s cellphone, US$10, and the clothes she was wearing. On May 27th, Chauke was arrested for stock theft and brought to the Chipinge ZRP station. During his arrest, he was found in possession of various women’s clothes, a cellphone, and a machete, all hidden in a sack and a bag. The recovered items matched the description of the goods that were reported stolen on May 26th in a bushy area along the Usanga-Bangazani Road in Chipinge.

Serial Killer’s Confession

During questioning by the ZRP, Chauke admitted to being responsible for Cylia’s murder and the theft of her belongings. He also confessed to raping the victim before killing her.

“The recovered items matched the description of the goods stolen at a bushy area along Usanga-Bangazani Road, Chipinge on the 26th of May 2024 where Cylia Maponese (45) was killed. The suspect was interviewed and admitted to have raped the victim before killing her and stealing a cellphone, various clothes, and $10 cash,” confirmed the ZRP.

A Disturbing Trail of Crimes

It is also alleged that Chauke is linked to another murder case involving a 54-year-old woman. Chauke is said to have raped and killed her on October 23rd of last year in Chikwanda village. In addition, Chauke is facing 7 cases of rape that occurred between April 2022 and April 2024.

“The suspect is also clearing seven cases of rape which occurred between 03rd April 2022 and 5th April 2024 in Chipinge” stated ZRP.
