Chabodo and Mwatutsa Receive Hefty Jail Sentences For Bedding Mentally-Challenged Woman For Veggies
Joshua Chabodo and Freddy Mwatutsa, from Chigodora, have been sentenced to 20 and 17 years in jail respectively for repeatedly bedding a mentally-challenged married woman.
The case was brought before a community court where the duo admitted to the crime. Videos of their admission went viral on social media platforms. The law prohibits bedding with individuals who are incapable of consenting due to their mental status. In this case, the 22-year-old woman was incapable of consenting to the sexual acts.
Mutare regional magistrate, Ms Pathekhile Msipa presided over the matter, while Mr Lust Goredema appeared for the State, reported Manicapost.
Details of the Case
Chabodo and Mwatutsa first showed the victim pornographic videos on a cellphone before sexually assaulting her on different occasions.

“Chabodo had unprotected sex with the victim several times that night while her husband was sleeping next to them. The matter came to light the following morning when the husband’s sister saw Chabodo sneaking out of the couple’s bedroom. She asked her sister-in-law what had transpired and the victim disclosed everything,” said Mr Goredema. “While in the bush, Mwatutsa asked to be intimate with the woman and she agreed. After the act, Mwatutsa took her to his homestead and gave her some carrots and cabbages and she returned to her homestead.”
The woman’s husband, who is also mentally-challenged and has memory loss, testified in court.
The court heard that the couple’s mental status aggravated the case. The duo’s actions were seen as an abuse of power and a violation of basic human rights.
Chabodo was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment while Mwatutsa was sentenced to 17 years for their crimes.
