MDC Youth Assembly has appointed Cecilia Chimbiri as the party’s acting Youth Assembly Chairperson, Zim Morning Post has learnt.
The appointment comes at a time when speculation has been rife that the party is on the verge of booting out Obey Sithole as the leader of the Youth Assembly.
In an Interview with Zim Morning Post MDC Alliance Youth Assembly Secretary General Gift Ostalos Siziba confirmed that Chimbiri will be acting until end of November.
“We have appointed Cecilia (Chimbiri) as the acting Chairperson, our Chairperson Obey Sithole is currently on four-month sick leave,” Siziba told Zim Morning Post.
Siziba also told Zim Morning Post that the Assembly has re-deployed it national Organising Secretary Godfrey Kurauone.
“We have re-deployed Cde Kura,” Siziba added
Reached for comment, Kurauone said he was still to be informed regards the re-deployment.
“I am still the party’s organizing Secretary, I do not know anything in terms of myself being re-deployed,” Kurauone said
OBEY Sithole’s position as the opposition MDC Alliance Youth Assembly chairperson is currently hanging by a thread amid a renewed push from within to oust him for failing to infuse a robust approach to dealing with Zanu PF.
The opposition’s youth assembly prides itself in being a key driver for change but has been conspicuous in tackling the ruling party’s shortcomings.
Sithole is said to be in Norway on what the party says is for a medical check-up.
