Budiriro Serial Robber Busted: Nabbed in Brazen US$190K Heist

A serial armed robber from Budiriro has been shot while trying to evade arrest after being caught robbing at gunpoint and stealing more than US$190K.

Elaborate Heist Unraveled

According to the reports, the 24-year-old suspect, along with two accomplices, orchestrated the elaborate heist on August 4th, 2024. One of the accomplices, who was hired to transport the hefty sum of US$194,000 from Bulawayo to Harare, spilled the beans to his cohorts, setting the stage for a brazen robbery.

As the driver and the owner of the money departed Bulawayo, the other two set up a fake police roadblock in Chivhu. Upon reaching the roadblock, they were stopped at gunpoint. A search was conducted, and upon finding the satchel with the cash, they pointed guns at the owner of the money. They made him get out of his car and lie on the ground. They then took his iPhone 13 and Nissan Note car keys before fleeing the scene.

Daring Suspects Caught

The police investigation that followed led to the arrest of one accomplice, Richard Banda, the following day. However, the Budiriro suspect managed to evade capture for a while, until yesterday when authorities finally caught up with him.

Dramatic Arrest and Recovery

During his arrest, he tried to evade the police and was shot while attempting to run away. He is currently being treated at Parirenyatwa Hospital, though in police custody. Authorities were able to recover US$100,422 from the heist, along with the stolen Nissan Note.
