Beitbridge sets building blocks to elevate town’s tourism product

THE Beitbridge business community, tourism players and Councillors on Wednesday set up a technical working committee to formulate synergies that will market the border town as a tourism and investment destination.

The stakeholders resolved to put hands on deck to ensure the town in the province of Matabeleland South fully exploits its resources in line with government’s devolution concept.

Organised by the Beitbridge Town Council with the aim of marketing destination Beitbridge, the stakeholder engagement resolved to formulate a Beitbridge Marketing Committee which will be chaired by the Beitbridge Town Council Clerk and the Rural District Council CEO.

Industry players also agreed to set up a Beitbridge Publicity Association and establish synergies that weave into the devolution plan.

“I think its absolutely essential that this community pulls together in a consented effort to market Beitbridge,” hunting operator Vanessa Bristol said on the sidelines of the meeting.

“We have so many assets that have not been well advertised and its up to us to show the country that the southern part of Zimbabwe can compete with Victoria Falls pretty easily,” she said.

She added that the engagement demonstrates the drive with which the town has in marketing the destination and opening up the space for locals to fully develop the town’s tourism product.

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) Head of Cooperate Affairs Godfrey Koti expressed delight at the setting up of the building blocks which will help elevate the border town.

“As ZTA we are delighted to be working toward a shared vision and this development will always put us a notch higher in developing the tourism product in its totality,” Koti said.
