Four Tsholotsho men are on the run after they beat to death a 16-year-old boy for stealing a pair of shoes.
Police said the boy succumbed to injuries sustained from the beatings at Dikili Line, Chief Gampu area, Tsholotsho on July 1 after he was assaulted by four men all over the body with a switch.
“The boy who was being accused of stealing a pair of shoes in the neighbourhood was tied to a tree where the suspects assaulted him,” police said in a statement.
“After the assault his legs and hands were tied with a rope and he was detained overnight in a hut.
“His condition deteriorated and he died the following morning. All the accused persons fled from the village on realising his death,” added the police.
Police urged the public to desist from meting out instant justice or taking the law into their own hands.
“We urge members of the public to seek assistance from the police with a view to apply the due process of the law,” police said.
