Zimbabwe Tourism Authority turns to television drama to promote tourism

HARARE — The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) is seeking a service provider to promote the country’s tourism destinations through the television drama series Nyakasikana, as it explores entertainment-based destination marketing.

The initiative was disclosed in the Government Gazette published on October 30, 2026.

Under tender number ZTA/JAHDRAMA/01/2026, the authority is inviting companies to bid for destination marketing and promotion services through the drama series.

The closing date for submissions is November 13, 2026.

The proposed initiative would use television storytelling as a promotional platform, potentially allowing tourism destinations to feature within entertainment programming rather than relying exclusively on conventional advertising.

However, the Gazette does not specify which destinations will be promoted, the value of the proposed contract, the television broadcaster involved or the intended audience.

It also does not disclose whether the programme will involve new episodes, product placement or other promotional arrangements associated with the series.

Interested bidders must provide a company profile, valid tax clearance, certificate of incorporation and proof of registration with the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe.

Bidding documents are available through the government’s electronic procurement platform.

The ZTA has not yet announced a successful bidder, and the Gazette does not indicate when the proposed promotional campaign would begin.

The initiative could provide an opportunity to showcase Zimbabwe’s tourism attractions through locally produced entertainment, although its effectiveness will depend on the eventual campaign design, audience reach and implementation.
