ZHDA to march for salary increase

ZIMBABWE Hospital Doctors’ Association (ZHDA) members on Wednesday will hold a solidarity march at  Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for a salary raise.

ZHDA declared incapacitation on behalf of its members four weeks ago and had asked for an urgent address of their issue by the government.

Several engagements have been made with the employer to come and address this impasse as a matter of emergency, but outcomes have been fruitless. We have recommenced engagements with the Health Services Board on September 25,” Zvakada said.

A statement issued by ZHDA acting secretary general Tawanda Zvakada said the association had proposed a five-figure salary to government.

While we are not at liberty to disclose the exact value we suggested to the employer, we would like to make it very clear that any other proposition which is not a five-figure salary would actually kill the spirit for negotiations.

“With grave concern, we noted that the employer is circulating falsified attendance statistics. It is sad that the system is trying too hard to ‘patch what it should just fix’,” Zvakada said.

Zvakada said they had suggested that they be given their salary as per the prevailing interbank exchange rate.

“We suggested the review of our on-call allowance at the prevailing interbank rate for that month, which is a solution we consider to be viable and suitably fit for the current dynamic economic trends,” he said.
