ZERA has warned fuel operators not to withhold fuel and not increase the price.

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has read a riot act on unscrupulous fuel operators who have held on to their stocks in anticipation of a fuel price increase.

In a statement released Tuesday morning, ZERA acting chief executive officer Eddington Mazambani said the price of fuel has not changed and he  warned operators who were in non-compliance that the Zimbabwe Republic Police  will deal with them accordingly.

“The petroleum industry is advised that the prices of fuel have not changed and operators are expected to continue selling fuel into the market as expected of them,”said Mazambani.

The statement comes at a time where long fuel queues have resurfaced amid speculation that fuel price might increase to at least RTGS$4.

Mazambani said the regulatory authority has so far deployed its employees together with members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police to monitor the prices of fuel in all towns and cities.

“Any operator found hoarding fuel will face the full wrath of the law… The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory authority (ZERA) and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Officers have been deployed in all towns and cities to ensure compliance.”
