The ministry of finance has ordered the reduction of the ZUPCO bus fare by 50 percent with effect from Tuesday morning.
The ministry’s permanent secretary George Guvamatanga wrote to secretary for local government and public works George Magosvongwe on Monday advising him to note the review which is under the banner ‘Operation Restore Sanity’.
The move in necessitated by the need to cushion the travelling public,Guvamatanga wrote.
It will see commuters paying 50 cents for distance not exceeding 20 kilometres, $0.75 for 30 km range and $1 for distances beyond 40 km.
Operators have predicted that the move is likely to see more transport challenges as the announcement has no corroboration with fuel availability and price reduction.
