Warriors to date Super Eagles

Zimbabwe senior soccer team The Warriors is set play a friendly match with the Super Eagles of Nigeria on June 8 as a preparatory match for the Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) finals slated for June 21 to July 19 in Egypt.

The match will be played in Lagos, Nigeria.

The Warriors were drawn in Group A alongside hosts Egypt, Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo.

Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) communication and competitions manager Xolisani Gwesela confirmed the development.

“It’s part of the preparations for the AFCON finals and we are ready to face Nigeria.

“There are no challenges at all in securing the friendly matches with other countries but it is just a matter of time, it’s a matter of procedures,” said Gwesela.

For the first time, 24 countries will be competing at arguably the best continental football showpiece.

West Africa football giants Cameroon are defending champions, having triumphed during the last event hosted by Gabon in 2017.

Egypt will use six stadia to host this biennial championship.

Cairo International Stadium, Air Force Stadium, Port Said Stadium, Ismailia Stadium, Suez Sport Stadium and Alexandria Stadium will be used.
