AT least 17 new typhoid cases were reported in Harare, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.
According to the statistics released Thursday by the Health ministry, the cases were reported at Harare Central Hospital (4), Group of Hospitals (1), North Western District (5) and West South District (7).
“This brings a total number for suspected typhoid cases to 5670 of which 165 were confirmed cases and 12 deaths.
“This comes at a time when vaccination was conducted in the eight most affected suburbs,” reads the statement.
“The next phase is to vaccinate all people aged 15 years and below after which the typhoid vaccine will be introduced into the childhood immunization program.
“This will put an end to typhoid cases and also preserve the antibiotics since significant resistance has already been documented,” reads the statement.
