MUTARE — Two housemaids have been sentenced to 36 months in prison for stealing USD26,000 from their employer in Chikanga, Mutare.
Ntandoyenkosi Sibanda, 32, and Ashley Munyaradzi Matika, 20, appeared before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court after being charged with theft. According to court records, on July 11, 2024, the two maids stole a cash box containing USD26,000 from their employer’s bedroom and shared the money.
The employer discovered the theft the following day and reported the incident to the police. Investigations led to the arrest of Sibanda and Matika, along with the recovery of the cash box and US$7,800.
The pair was sentenced to 36 months in prison, with six months suspended. An additional 12 months were suspended on the condition that they pay restitution. The remaining sentence was suspended on condition that both complete 630 hours of community service.
