AFCON opening match: Will birthday boy Musona be our Moses against the Pharoahs?

In Biblical times there was a man called Moses who led the Israelites from Egypt to the promised  land Canaan- the land of milk and honey.

And as the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off this Friday, birthday boy and Warriors skipper Knowledge Musona  has been given the Herculean task to play the role of Moses and take the Warriors to the Promised Land.

The opening match coincides with the goal poacher’s 29th birthday and the Smiling Assassin is expected to lead the Warriors as they hunt for their first win at the Total sponsored African Cup of Nations .

The million dollar question is will the 29- year -old fit in ‘Moses’ shoes and conquer Egypt?

The perfect pep talk for Musona ahead of tonight’s match must be “The Egyptians you see today, you will not see them again.”

The match is the Smiling Assassin ’s virgin moment to wear the national team armband  at this prestigious tournament rendering the honour a very special  birthday present for our birthday boy who to over the captaincy from Willard “Salt and Vinegar” Katsande.

According to AFCON statistics,  Musona performed better than the talented Egypt and  Liverpool forward Mo Salah who scored only four goals  against  Musona ‘s five goals during the qualifiers campaign.

This gave African football pundits ‘rights’ to submit that Musona is better than Mo Salah in front of goal on the road to this elite soccer showcase.

Tonight’s game will  probably rewind Musona’s memory to what Salah did to the Warriors at the giant National Sports Stadium when his side was captained by the bad boy in the football circles Denver Mundikumbuke Mukamba .

At the back of his mind, the ever smiling Musona must be   aware that his last visit to Egypt brought him personal glory as he managed to find the back of the net though the Warriors lost the match in question.

If it took an unknown Moses to conquer Pharoah  and the Egyptians at the  Red Sea, why can’t the Warriors do the same.

We are hopeful that our national team which is wearing the tag of underdogs will surprise the whole world by winning this match to celebrate the birthday of our captain and keep the smile on the Smiling Assassin’s face.

Happy Birthday Our Smiling Assasin!

Be our Moses and lead us to the land of milk and honey against all odds

Go Warriors Go!!!
