President of Passengers Association of Zimbabwe (PAZ) President, Tafadzwa Goliati said the rise in toll gate charges is an unwelcome development that will fuel fare hikes as public transporters pass on costs adding more financial pain to already embattled consumers.
In a press statement Goliati said, he hopes that fuel and other price increases will not continue to affect the citizens who use public transport because the toll fees from Harare to Bulawayo have risen to $105 from $30.
“We hope that fuel and other price increases will not continue to incapacitate the mobility of the commuting public”
“Bus fare increases will create a Berlin wall between rural and urban family members; between children and their elderly parents; and between husbands and wives, who work in different distant places”
“Consequently, the family fabric has been torn, more so, given that previous increases in bus fares and overall price increases have financially incapacitated families,” he saidThe government is urged to address this issue so that the citizens will enjoy their services .
