In a shocking turn of events, social media personality and businesswoman Olinda Chapel has asked comedian Shadaya Tawona for a business proposal so that she can sponsor him to start a business. This has surprised many in Zimbabwe because these two socialites do not see eye to eye and have been involved in several online spats.

Olinda Chapel, who is married to musician Tytan and runs her own company in the United Kingdom which specialises in the recruitment of professionals for the health sector⁴, made the unexpected offer on her Instagram live. She said:

“Shadaya Tawona I have a proposition for you. I want to sponsor you to start a business. I am serious. Inbox me your business proposal and let’s talk.”

This came as a shock to many of her followers who wondered why she would want to help someone who has mocked and insulted her several times. Shadaya Tawona is a comedian who runs an Instagram page dedicated to posting funny memes and attacking women. He has previously made fun of Olinda’s appearance, marriage and HIV status¹².

Some of Olinda’s fans praised her for being generous and forgiving, while others cautioned her against trusting Shadaya. Some of Shadaya’s fans also reacted to the offer, with some urging him to accept it and others accusing him of being a sellout.

It is not clear what motivated Olinda to make such an offer, or what kind of business she wants to sponsor Shadaya for. Some have speculated that she is trying to mend fences with him, or that she is doing it for publicity. Others have suggested that she is genuinely interested in empowering young Zimbabweans with entrepreneurial skills.

Olinda Chapel is known for being involved in various philanthropic activities through her Olinda Chapel Foundation. She also owns a lipstick brand called Olinda Chapel Cosmetics and is involved in medical supplies⁵. She has been named as one of the 50 most inspirational women in business in Zimbabwe by the Women Corporate Directors Network⁶.

Shadaya Tawona has not yet responded publicly to Olinda’s offer, but many are curious to see if he will take it or reject it. Whatever he decides, this is surely one of the most unexpected twists in Zimbabwe’s social media scene.
