MUTARE – Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda says he does not enjoy announcing the expulsion of MDC Alliance officials from Parliament adding that recalling Members of Parliament is not “within my heart.”
Mudenda made the remarks in his keynote address at a workshop held on Wednesday in Mutare for the Portfolio Committee on Mines and Mining Development.
The workshop was on the review of legislation and policies
governing the Mining Industry.
“Let me, from the onset, welcome you all to this crucially important
workshop which must define the enactment process of the long awaited
Mines and Minerals law,” he said.
“But l can see some faces looking at me, but I am only here for the
workshop. I am not here to read recalling letters. I do not enjoy
reading the recalling letters. It is not within my heart to read such
letters. I am only following the Constitution,” Mudenda said.
Mudenda said the recalls were pursuant to section 129 (k) of the Constitution.
The MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe has been recalling Members of
Parliament aligned to the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa.
