Muguti accused of stifling development in Chitungwiza

By Philemon Jambaya

Harare Provincial Development Coordinator, Tafadzwa Muguti has come under fire for allegedly stifling development in areas such as Chitungwiza.

These accusations follow a letter he wrote addressed to Chitungwiza Town Clerk Mrs Evangelista Machona dated August 19, 2021 which reads:

“Be advised that Public Private Partnerships with investors are implemented after following certain procedures and protocols which unfortunately your Council did not follow. You are therefore instructed to re-do the process as is required and expected in terms of the Zimbabwe Investment Development Agency Act (Chapter 14.07).”

The group asserts that after demolitions of illegal market stalls in the dormitory town in 2020, they flighted adverts seeking those who expressed interest to build or invest in areas such as Jambanja, Chikwanha, Huruyadzo and Chigovanyika markets.

This was all done according to due process but at the very last minute, Muguti stopped the whole process threatening to get them arrested.

“In 2020 after demolitions of markets we flighted an advert calling for expression of interest for those who would want to build at Jambanja, Chikwanha, Huruyadzo and Chigovanyika markets as well as renovation of the Chibuku stadium to meet CAF standards so that Premier league football could be played in Chitungwiza. From nowhere, Muguti came and stopped everything. This was after interested parties had responded, due processes were followed and presentations were done with interested parties having been given letters of award,” said a source.

They alleged that Muguti started threatening them with arrest and by now they could have achieved great developments such as what the City of Gweru did.

“During this time, that is when the famous Kudzanayi terminus in Gweru started being renovated and by now Chitungwiza could have already benefited just like City of Gweru. Right now Council is being sued by those who had been handed letters of award for development to start because of Muguti,” the source added.
