Thokozani Khupe has thrown her weight behind Nelson Chamisa led Citizens Coalition For Change (CCC) in an about turn to a once frosty relationship between the two opposition stalwarts.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Khupe said she had taken the move to call on all MDC-T members and supporters and citizens at large to go and vote on the 26th of March for Citizens Coalition For Change candidates across the country “because we are stronger together.”
“We’re building a strong foundation towards a resounding victory in 2023. So let us all of us rally behind Nelson Chamisa as we prepare for 2023 elections,as it’s going to be a defining moment for every citizen in this country,” she said.
Clad in a yellow shirt emblazoned with Chamisa’s face, the MDC-T faction leader lamented that the continued fragmentation of the opposition only served to boost Zanu PF.
Her sentiments come after opposition political leaders in Matabeleland have made several moves behind the scenes to join forces ahead of the 2023 elections although no concrete announcement has been made.
Chamisa has said he was aware of disgruntlement in the rank and file of the party over some politicians joining the CCC.
“We want to work with everyone who is progressive,” he said.
“On various platforms people were talking about a lot of things. We are beginning afresh. We are starting from zero. We don’t have an MP, councillor. Yes, others are joining every day,” Chamisa said.
“We are here; we are very inclusive. It’s a new start, a new beginning.
“What is going to be different is that we are going to have a roadmap. We want big numbers. We want to repeat what was done in Zambia.”
The CCC leader said an overwhelming vote for his party would curtail rigging.
“If we have huge numbers, there is no rigging. Let’s work together,” Chamisa said.
“It’s not about positions, but the change we want for the people of Zimbabwe. There is enough space for everyone.
“We want to make sure that we build a CCC. Once bitten twice shy. We are going to make sure that we don’t allow Zanu PF to infiltrate us.”
