HARARE — Former Zimbabwe Under-23 national team coach and football educator Wiesław Grabowski has died, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) announced on Wednesday.
In a statement, ZIFA described Grabowski as a “legendary coach and football educator” whose contribution to Zimbabwean football would be remembered for generations.
Grabowski was widely credited with nurturing young talent, developing coaching standards and helping shape the careers of many of Zimbabwe’s footballers.
One of the highlights of his coaching career came in 1995 when he guided the Zimbabwe Under-23 national team to a silver medal at the All-Africa Games, which were hosted in Zimbabwe.
“Coach Grabowski dedicated his life to nurturing talent, building pathways for young players and shaping the careers of many of Zimbabwe’s finest footballers,” ZIFA said.
“His unwavering commitment to youth development and coach education helped lay the foundations for generations of Zimbabwean football talent.”
ZIFA said Grabowski’s passion for identifying and developing young players, coupled with his dedication to improving coaching standards, left a lasting impact on Zimbabwean football.
“Zimbabwean football has lost a true pioneer, mentor and servant of the game,” the association said. “His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of players, coaches and football administrators.”
ZIFA extended its condolences to Grabowski’s family, friends, former players and colleagues.
