Just In: Former VP Mphoko granted bail

By Bayethe Mhlanga

FORMER Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko who is facing charges of abuse of public office has been granted $1000 bail by Magistrate Enias Magate.

Mphoko is facing arrest for forcing the release from police custody of former Zimbabwe National Road Administration acting chief executive Moses Juma and non-executive director Davison Norupiri, who were in 2016 arrested by Zacc on allegations of defrauding the roads authority of US$1,3 million.

The bail conditions require Mphoko to surrender his passport and report to CID commercial crimes division every Friday.  His next remand date is September 4 at the Rotten row court in Harare.

Mphoko was reported to be on the run after he dramatically sped off from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) avoiding being arrested at the Bulawayo’s Tredgold Magistrates Court.
