Inter-Rail-Tech in import substitution drive

National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) engineering unit, Inter-Rail-Tech, will be participating at the 2019 Mining, Engineering and Transport exhibition, (Mine Entra) with emphasis on saving the country foreign currency through import substitution initiatives.

In a press statement, Inter-Rail-Tech says they will be focusing on clinching deals to manufacture mining equipment spares for small-scale and established miners.

Inter-Rail-Tech, which operates from the NRZ Mechanical Workshops, will be focusing on clinching deals to manufacture mining equipment spares for small-scale and established miners,” reads the statement.

The manufacture of mining equipment by Inter-Rail-Tech aims at saving foreign currency as spares will be manufactured locally.

Inter-Rail-Tech can save the country and miners the much needed foreign currency by manufacturing spares locally and at competitive prices. Most of the spares used in the mining sector are imported but Inter-Rail-Tech is able to manufacture them to customers’ specifications Mining spares which can be manufactured by Inter-Rail-Tech at its massive workshops include sleeve wheels, cocopan wheels, and dolly wheels, rollers for conveyors, bolts, nuts, flanges and crane wheels.”

“It can also repair heavy mining equipment such as jaw crushers while it has the expertise to rewind motors and generators,” reads the statement.

This year at Mine Intra, Inter-Rail-Tech will display Head Shaft Gear made by the unit which draws ore from underground and it can also be used to evacuate people from beneath the ground in case of emergency.

Inter-Rail-Tech consists of NRZ’s Mechanical, Signals, and Electrical and Bridge yard sections.

The sections previously provided engineering solutions for NRZ rail operations only but their activities have been expanded to take outside jobs.

NRZ mechanical workshops are among the largest in Zimbabwe and are equipped with machinery to do most jobs required by industry.

The rail entity’s new brand, Inter-Rail-Tech, was established in 2017 to unlock NRZ’s engineering expertise and capacity. Inter-Rail-Tech’s participation at this year’s Mine Entra will be its third year on the expo as a brand.
