Harare residential stands scam: 6 councillors nabbed

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police on Monday arrested six Harare MDC Alliance councillors as the law enforcement agents step up investigations into allegations of the illegal parcelling of State land involving millions of United States dollars, Zim Morning Post can reveal.

This publication has it on good authority that a ZRP Commissioner, Douglas Jabulani Nyakutsikwa, has been freed on ZWL15 000 bail; also in connection with the Harare land scam.

Harare City Council (HCC) is presently facing allegations with regards to the irregular allocations of residential stands, with many of its senior staffers facing possible jail time.

Zim Morning Post is in possession of a dossier dated July 2 in which Acting Human Capital Director, Mathew Marara and the principal Housing officer, Edgar Dzehonye (who have since been arrested) are implicated.

Also accused in the residential stands scandal are junior council employees, student attachees, registered and non-registered real estate agents and other freelance agents.

The dossier unearthed the massive illegal sale of council land between 2015 and 2019, mainly in Kuwadzana suburb.

Meanwhile, a ZRP Commissioner, Douglas Jabulani Nyakutsikwa, 59, was not asked to plead to charges of criminal abuse of office when he appeared before Harare magistrate Bianca Makwande today.

He was freed on a $15 000 bail and remanded to August 28.

Nyakutsikwa is jointly charged with Harare housing director, Addmore Nhekairo, 54.
