Guruve Miner Arrested for Killing Coworker Over US$33 Theft
A 21-year-old miner at Chirwa Mine in Guruve has been arrested for killing his workmate over a US$33 theft.
Violent Confrontation Leads to Brutal Murder

According to reports, the tragic event unfolded on July 13th, 2024, around 1 PM. Albert Tom approached his workmate and accused him of stealing his US$33. The confrontation quickly escalated, with the two men getting into a heated argument. In a fit of rage, Albert grabbed a steel rod and struck his workmate twice on the forehead, as well as several times all over his body. The victim collapsed and succumbed to his injuries.

Albert’s Attempts to Cover Tracks
After leaving his workmate lying on the ground, Albert went back to work in the mine shafts. Upon returning, he found the victim dead and proceeded to drag the body into a thick bush, approximately 40 meters away from their base.

Esigodini Man Arrested for Arson Attack on Ex-Girlfriend’s Home
In a separate incident, a 40-year-old Esigodini man has been arrested for setting fire to his ex-girlfriend’s home while she was with her new boyfriend. According to reports, Mandlenkosi Mhlanga went to his ex-girlfriend’s house and found her in the kitchen with her new partner.

When they refused to open the door, Mhlanga became enraged and set the kitchen on fire. Fortunately, the two lovers managed to escape unharmed and reported the incident to the police, leading to Mhlanga’s arrest.

Court Proceedings
“A 40-year-old man, Mandlenkosi Mhlanga, appeared before the Esigodini Magistrate’s Court on two counts of attempted murder. He was sentenced to 5 years’ imprisonment, of which 2 years were suspended. He will serve 3 years effectively,” read the NPAZ press statement.
