Ginimbi facing fresh fraud charges over R5 million Rolls Royce Ghost

  • Genius ‘Ginimbi’ Kadungure arrested again for undervaluing a vehicle

FLAMBOYANT businessman and socialite Genius ‘Ginimbi’ Kadungure was Thursday arrested for fabricating the purchase receipts that undervalued a Rolls Royce Ghost vehicle which he imported from South Africa.

It was his second arrest in as many months. In his initial case he was recently released on bail after spending two weeks behind bars.

For allegedly undervaluing the Rolls Royce Ghost, it is the state’s case that in October 2017 Ginimbi claimed to have bought the car for three million rands when the car actually costed five million rands.

Sometime in October 2017, Ginimbi allegedly went to Daytona Motor Group Private (Pvt) Limited (Ltd), Johannesburg South Africa and bought the vehicle in question for ZAR5 000 000.

It is said that during the same period accused person deceived Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) by forging a bill to say he had bought the car for ZAR3 000 000.

On July 27, 2018 Ginimbi reportedly imported the car through Beitbridge Boarder post and tendered the fake documents to ZIMRA officials for duty payment.

The complainant, ZIMRA represented by Simon Lovemore Chigwanda acted upon the misrepresentation and charged duty totaling US$138 170.49 instead of US$228 430.59.

The state claims that investigations which were carried out by the complainant proved that the accused had defrauded them.

Ginimbi was ordered to pay ZWL5 000 bail along with conditions that he has to surrender his passport which is already being held by the clerk of court and report twice a month on Fridays at the CID CCD.

Accused was told to reside at the given address until the matter is finalized.

He was remanded to March 19.
